Job Location & Development (JLD) Program

The Job Location and Development (JLD) Program is a service provided through the Student Employment Office that assists employers with students seeking off-campus career related part-time jobs and paid internships. The program gives students the opportunity to explore the world of work, increase self-knowledge and develop marketable skills that provide a solid foundation for securing career-related options beyond graduation.  JLD is a federally funded program which operates year-round.  Employers post their job opportunities through UICCAREERS.COM.  The JLD coordinator works to develop off campus positions for students in ALL MAJORS.  Additional services include providing access to employment opportunity information and various workshops developed to improve resume writing, interviewing skills and job fair networking opportunities.

Sevices provided to employers include Career Fairs, Information Tables, Email Blasts to students and other ideas on how employers can best market their organizations and openings to UIC students.

Services to students include appointments, resume and cover letter writing services, job search advice and assistance, information on how to use UICCareers.com, bi-monthly check-ins, Career Development Workshops and Career Fairs.

In order to participate in the JLD Program you:

  1. Must be a UIC student and be registered for at least six (6) credit hours.
  2. Cannot be a senior in your last semester in order to participate in this program.
  3. Must also be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident to utilize the JLD Program.

To register with the JLD Program:

  • Pick up a JLD application from our office (SSB, 2100) and submit it with a resume. (If you don’t have a resume, we’ll help you write one).
  • You will need to schedule an appointment with the JLD Coordinator to interview and discuss your interests and to obtain more information about the positions and program.
  • Once you meet with the JLD Coordinator and submit an approved resume, you will have “Student Employment JLD Program” access on www.UICcareers.com where you can apply to “JLD jobs and internships".
